The same way it is innate for the girls to want to pick up a baby doll and cuddle it. We actually haven't "purchased" any play guns (other than water guns) and like your boys, our son makes everything into a gun or a sword! Must be something about boys. Erik wanted to get them a BB gun for Christmas, I admit I drew the line at that one. My boys have tons of guns just like their daddy, grandpa and papa. We all have nerf guns and the whole family runs around "shooting" each other some times. In the summer we do the same with water guns. I think teaching respect and responsibility of guns is more important than trying to pretend like they don't exist. They then turned in to deer, turkeys, ducks, rogues, shammans and driuds just to name a few. We have also gotten the nerf guns that shoot out foam balls and darts and well those are just fun to have a war with.
