Heather, I agree with you. To me, if I vote for her just because she is a woman, I am not being a feminist. I am being sexist. Just as if someone wouldn’t vote for Obama just because of his race, that is racist. Hillary (and Obama and everyone else in the race) should be judged on their message, their merits, their experience. Race, sex, religion should have no bearing on the choice.

THANK YOU! Very well said! It’s frightening to me that someone could vote for her “just because” she’s a woman. UGH! If I had ever found out I had gotten a job “just because” I was a woman and NOT because I was the best qualified, I would be TICKED!

Several feminist blogs in my daily rounds (and that’s more than just the Lowcountry folks) have declared either that sentiment and frankly it baffles me. I can’t get it to mesh with my idea of equality. Yes we fight to have things “fair” but fair does not mean voting for “our side” just because the opportunity presents itself. Isn’t that what part of the opposing side has predicted for years and years?

Yeah yeah, my feminism isn’t your feminism yada yada.

I’m still baffled.
